On Thursday, Jan. 28, the Chilean ultra-low-cost carrier JetSMART received a brand new Airbus A320neo aircraft loaded in an unprecedented way with BioFuel, an organic fuel that reduces the carbon footprint emitted by the aircraft by 80%. This new aircraft arrived at the Arturo Benitez International Airport in Santiago de Chile.

With this new aircraft incorporation, JetSMART is one of the only 9 airlines worldwide that have delivered their aircraft with this element.

According to ALNNEWS, the arrival of this aircraft corresponds to JetSMARTS’ 7th A320NEO. The Chilean ultra-low-cost carrier is committed to the delivery of 86 additional aircraft, which will reach a fleet size of 104 aircraft (11 CEO + 93 NEO).

This new member of the JetSMART fleet, which currently consists of 18 aircraft. This plane will be placed together with the rest of the JetSMART aircraft at the disposal of the Ministry of Health during 2021, in order to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, transporting vaccines, supplies and medical personnel if required, to different parts of the country, initiative It began this Monday with the transfer of vaccines from the Arturo Benitez International Airport in Santiago de Chile to Mocopulli in Chiloé.

In this way, the company reaffirms its commitment to be innovative, disruptive and to have a positive impact on the environment.

The carrier has a fleet made up largely of A320neo aircraft, aircraft that reduce the acoustic footprint by 50% and save 20% in fuel, and which, for the first time, have ventured into the use of BioFuel, an organic fuel that reduces the carbon footprint emitted by the aircraft by 80%.

In turn, its wings are fitted with winglets, which allows fuel efficiency to be increased by 4%, which translates into an annual CO2 reduction of 700 tons per plane.

They also have the latest generation seats, which are lighter, reducing the carbon footprint per passenger, since the less an aircraft weighs, the less fuel it will consume.

In addition, a series of measures have been implemented such as elimination of the menu onboard, replacing it with a digital one through a QR code, digital documentation for pilots, online check-in and not having physical commercial offices.

Currently JetSMART is operating 15 domestic destinations in Chile: the cities of Santiago de Chile, Arica, Iquique, Antofagasta, Calama, Copiapó, La Serena, Concepción, Temuco, Valdivia, Puerto Montt, Chiloé, Balmaceda, Punta Arenas and Puerto Natales, 20 interregional routes and more than 30 domestic routes.
