Aeroméxico Launches Routes to Europe, South America

Mexican flag carrier Aeroméxico continues to gain ground in long-range flights from different hubs in Mexico amid signs of recovery as it looks to capitalize by inaugurating new international routes.

In a press release, Aeroméxico announced its new route between the Monterrey, Mexico and Madrid, which will begin on Dec. 16 with three weekly frequencies and will be operated with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

It is important to remember that as announced, Aeroméxico will also be launching non-stop flights to Madrid from its secondary hub in Guadalajara, Mexico beginning December 15. Aeromexico will fly its Boeing 787 Dreamliner jets three times weekly from Mexico’s second-largest city to the Spanish capital.

With this new announcement, the Mexican airline will be operating more than 20 weekly flights from Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara to the Spanish capital, totaling 14 separate frequencies from Mexico City in addition to the three each from Guadalajara and Monterrey.

This increase in the connectivity between México and Spain will represent more than 13,300 weekly seats, a 43% increase in the airline’s offer between Mexico and Spain.

Expanding Closer to Home

In another press release, Aeroméxico revealed that it will operate a new seasonal route between Cancun and the city of Sao Paulo, with three weekly flights using its Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. This new route will begin from this December 15 until April 17, 2022.

The Mexican flag carrier has been operating routes between Mexico and Brazil for more than 20 years and with this new route, it will increase the offering of monthly seats between the countries by 43%.

Mexico is one of the strategic markets for Brazil, whose citizens are a significant part of the contingent of visitors to Cancun, which is one of the most important tourist and beach destinations in the North American country.

Despite that encouraging news, Aeroméxico reported only 81% occupancy in July, a 7.5% decrease compared to the same month in 2019.

According to Reportur, the Mexican flag carrier continues to transport fewer passengers compared to its pre-Covid-19 levels. In July, it transported 1,669,000 passengers, 13% less than before the pandemic.

Aeroméxico exceeded its domestic passenger count numbers by 6.6%, but in the international market, it is still transporting 41.4% fewer passengers than in 2019. It had an occupancy in July of 80.1%, an increase of 2.5% compared to June of this year, but with 7.5% below 2019 in the same month.

The Mexican flag carrier currently operates on 82 national and international routes.
