Eurowings plans to add Boeing 737 MAX jets in its largest-ever fleet expansion. The carrier – which is part of the Lufthansa Group – made the announcement on Monday.
As part of the fleet shake-up, the Lufthansa Group will allocate 40 737 MAX 8 aircraft to Eurowings. The carrier says the new aircraft will help it maintain one of the youngest fleets in Europe.
In a news release, the airline added that the investment is equivalent to $5 billion at current list prices. The European airline group first ordered the 737 MAXs in December 2023 with plans to distribute them across its various entities.
Delivery of the first 737 MAX 8 to Eurowings is slated for 2027 with 40 planned through 2032.

“The largest investment in our company’s history shows that we are making rapid progress towards low-emission flying – through significantly lower fuel consumption, lower emissions and significantly less noise,” said Eurowings CEO Jens Bischof in the release.
The carrier currently operates a fleet of around 70 Airbus narrowbody aircraft, including the A319, A320, A320neo, A321, and A321neo. With the new MAXs, Eurowings plans to phase out its A319 fleet and some older A320s.
