The airline is growing both its domestic and international networks later this year.

American Airlines is enhancing its network with new routes and expanded services. The airline will introduce five new routes to Cancun, Mexico, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, in addition to more domestic flights.

Starting Nov. 8, American will become the first airline with regularly scheduled international flights from Oklahoma. The carrier will offer a Saturday-only flight from Oklahoma City to Cancun on a Boeing 737 aircraft.

Four New Punta Cana Routes

Punta Cana will see four new routes from Indianapolis; Nashville, Tennessee; Pittsburgh; and Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, starting Dec. 6, with Boeing 737 aircraft.

Flights in these markets will also operate once per week on Saturdays.

“American’s comprehensive global network is designed to give customers more access to the destinations they want to visit,” said Brian Znotins, American’s senior vice president of network planning, in a news release. “Together with new routes, more flights on popular routes and extended seasons to major destinations, American’s schedule is designed for travelers to get away to sun, sand and more next winter.”

New Domestic Routes

On Oct. 6, American will begin the only nonstop service from Los Angeles to Des Moines, Iowa, and from Phoenix to Little Rock, Arkansas. Both routes will operate daily with Embraer E175 aircraft, an airline spokesperson said.

Ultra-low-cost carrier Allegiant recently pulled out of the Des Moines to Los Angeles market.

Starting on Dec. 19, the airline will offer new service from its Charlotte, North Carolina, hub to Aspen, Colorado. These flights will operate on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with CRJ-700 aircraft.
