Two gates reopened at Chicago O’Hare International Airport on Thursday as a sweeping, $300 million renovation of Terminal 3 continues.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, and American Airlines executives were on hand as gates K1 and L2A reopened to the public. Both gates had their hold rooms expanded.
Four baggage claim stations also came back online Thursday.
The gate renovations were carried out as part of the broader ElevateT3 project. Besides the overhaul of K1 and L2A, the project will enlarge the passenger corridor between Concourse K and Concourse L, add approximately 10,000 square feet of space for amenities and concessions, and upgrade American’s Admirals Club location.
ElevateT3 is scheduled for completion in 2027, and Terminal 3 will remain open as work continues.
