Key Takeaways:

Lufthansa will launch the only nonstop connection between Germany and Ohio next year.

Starting May 5, 2027, the German flag carrier will link Frankfurt and Columbus, Ohio. Service will operate three times weekly using Boeing 787-9 aircraft with 287 passenger seats.

The flight will be the first and so far only service between Columbus and Europe; the only intercontinental service at Columbus; and the only service between the state of Ohio and Germany.

“The new service will provide both business and leisure travelers with a convenient nonstop connection to Germany, as well as onward destinations across our Lufthansa Group network,” Dirk Janzen, Lufthansa Group’s vice president of passenger sales for the Americas, said in a news release. “The launch of this route is an important step in our continued expansion in the United States, our most important market outside the Lufthansa Group’s home markets.”

Columbus and Ohio officials said Lufthansa’s new route will benefit the 38 German companies operating in the Columbus area and promote investment and job creation. Germany is the third-largest source of international investment in Ohio, behind only Japan and Canada, and more than 750 German-owned business establishments operate in the state.

Lufthansa said its Columbus-Frankfurt flights will have 28 lie-flat business class seats, 28 premium economy seats, and 231 economy seats.

The airline will serve 27 destinations in the U.S. next year.
