A deal made public this week will see Bombardier take control of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ aerospace operations in Canada.
Bombardier said Tuesday that it will acquire the assets of MHI Canada Aerospace, Inc., located in Mississauga, Ontario. The manufacturer will take on board MHICA’s aerostructure manufacturing capabilities and a team of about 750 employees.
Bombardier officials said the transaction will strengthen the company’s in-house aerostructures business and improve resilience and autonomy.
Financial details were not disclosed. The deal is subject to regulatory approvals, and is expected to close some time later this year.
“This agreement represents a key step in Bombardier’s long-term growth strategy, strengthening critical capabilities, enhancing operational resilience, and supporting the company’s flexibility to meet growing customer demand,” David Murray, executive vice president of manufacturing, supply chain execution, and operational excellence at Bombardier, said in a news release. “MHI Canada Aerospace has built a highly respected operation with a talented and experienced team. With this acquisition, we are deepening our core manufacturing expertise as well as our commitment to proactively develop the local workforce through multiple streams in component manufacturing and whole aircraft assembly.”
MHI said it remains committed to the commercial aerospace and defense industries and will maintain a significant presence in Canada through other business activities.
