An Amazon-branded cargo aircraft overran the runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday, hitting multiple vehicles and erupting in thick, dark smoke as it came to a stop.
The Boeing 767-300, operated for Amazon by 21 Air, crashed around 2 p.m. local time after a flight from San Juan, Puerto Rico, the FAA said. First responders confirmed multiple vehicles on the ground near the airport were struck.
It was not immediately clear how many people were injured. NBC News reported that multiple people were being transported to area hospitals.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said more than 60 of its units responded to the airport.
All runways and taxiways at Miami were closed following the crash. The airport said travelers should check the status of their flight with their airline.
Video filmed at the scene shows the seriously damaged jet came to a stop near a parking lot outside of the airport. CNN reported that the parking lot is part of an Amazon facility.
The FAA said it is investigating the incident.
