A Delta flight from Barcelona to Boston was diverted to Porto, Portugal, on Sunday after smoke was detected inside the cabin.

The Airbus A330 operating the route experienced a mechanical issue, the airline told Reuters on Monday. Portuguese officials told the news outlet that smoke was reported in the cabin.

Eight passengers were treated by medical personnel on the taxiway at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, and another three were hospitalized. It was not clear Monday afternoon if the three passengers who were hospitalized had been released.

In a statement, the airline apologized for the disruption and said it was working on getting the passengers to Boston.
