While Air New Zealand is known for its destinations throughout Asia and its home country, it is quickly gaining new presence in the United States with its latest flight to Houston, Texas.

Flight NZ 38, operated by a Boeing 777-200ER, departed Auckland, New Zealand last night and arrived into Houston Intercontinental Airport at 1:15pm today. The flight will operate five days a week, featuring the airline’s famous economy “Skycouch” for families, premium economy and well numerous lie-flat business class seats. This flight is in addition to the four other cities in North America that have service offered by Air New Zealand, including flights to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, and Honolulu.

Air New Zealand Chief Executive Officer Christopher Luxon stated, “This week we mark 50 years of flying to the U.S – it’s a huge milestone and fantastic that as we celebrate this we also celebrate the operational launch of our latest U.S service which directly connects the heart of America’s south to New Zealand.”

To make the venture an even bigger catalyst, Air New Zealand has partnered up with fellow Star Alliance partner, United Airlines, to offer a codeshare on the flight as well as numerous connecting options around the US from United’s major hub in Houston.

“The new service between George Bush Intercontinental Airport and Auckland enhances Houston’s status as a true global gateway city, with one of the strongest international route networks found anywhere in North America,” stated Houston Aviation Director Mario Diaz. “We look forward to building a strong and mutually beneficial partnership with Air New Zealand.”
