Key Takeaways:

Delta is bolstering its operation in Central Texas with yet another route within the state. Starting in October, the airline plans to add service between Austin and Harlingen, which is located in the southern tip of Texas.

According to the latest Cirium Diio schedule update, the new route is slated to launch on Oct. 7 with daily SkyWest-operated Embraer E175 service. Delta currently serves Harlingen’s Valley International Airport seasonally from its Minneapolis/St. Paul hub.

The airline will compete directly with Southwest on the route, which operates up to two flights per day between the two cities. Harlingen also sees regular flights on American and United.

Growing in Texas

Austin to Harlingen is the third intra-Texas route for the Atlanta-based airline. Recently, Delta announced service from Austin to Midland and McAllen.

Regional carrier SkyWest, which operates these flights on behalf of Delta, also opened a new crew base in Austin earlier this month.

In Austin, Delta offers up to 50 peak-day nonstop flights to 15 U.S. airports. The airline is the third largest in the market behind Southwest and American.
