Qantas says it will fully deploy its Airbus A380 fleet this year. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Australian carrier opted to ground its superjumbo fleet but has gradually returned the jets to service.
In 2019, the airline had 12 A380s in active service. After a nearly yearlong grounding, Qantas returned its first A380 to service in November 2021.
Two of Qantas’ A380s are retired, according to Cirium Fleet Analyzer data, while two remain in storage. The carrier currently has eight in service.
On Thursday, the airline said it plans to restore its last two A380s to active service in 2025. Previously, the last A380 was set to reenter service in 2026.
The airline continues to expand its superjumbo jet network, too. Starting in August, the carrier will restart A380 flights between Sydney and Dallas/Fort Worth.
