At 50 feet above ground level, the aircraft’s rate of descent had increased to 1,114 feet per minute, triggering a “sink rate” warning.

The Bering Air flight that crashed last month in remote Alaska was more than 1,000 pounds overweight for the conditions, investigators said Wednesday.

The deployment of the Runway Incursion Device at airports marks the third and final fast-tracked initiative from 2023’s Safety Call to Action.

He added that the Flexjet crew had a “decent amount of experience,” but a process to review their certificates is underway by the FAA.

One crew member sustained serious injuries, while 15 others on board the flight suffered minor injuries, according to investigators.

Following the incident, all crew members and several passengers were transported to the hospital for medical evaluation.

Errors in forward pressure bulkhead assembly and installation could ‘adversely affect the structural integrity of the airplane,’ the agency said.

The flight landed safely, but one of its engines caught fire while taxiing to the gate, the spokesperson added. Passengers evacuated the aircraft using slides.

The NTSB issued an urgent recommendation Tuesday for the FAA to limit helicopter operations near the D.C. airport following January’s accident.

CEO Ed Bastian called the January accident in Washington “ a causal fact in terms of the trend line that we’re looking at.”
