As pointed out by Ishrion Aviation on Twitter (X), San Antonio, Texas is slated to receive its first-ever long-haul route in 2024. The airport, which saw nearly 9.5 million passengers in 2022, has yet to receive any scheduled nonstop air service outside of North and Central America.

Low-cost carrier Condor plans to start service from its Frankfurt hub (FRA) to San Antonio (SAT) on May 17, 2024. The service will operate three times per week, according to the Tweet.

The flight is scheduled to depart Frankfurt at 2:00 p.m., arriving in San Antonio at 6:25 p.m. The flight will then turn around, leaving SAT at 8:25 p.m. and arrive in FRA the next day at 1:40 p.m.  All times are local.

Currently, nearby Austin–Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) sees regular transatlantic service from British Airways and Virgin Atlantic to London Heathrow. Lufthansa and KLM also serve Austin.

New Central Texas Long-Haul Flights

Airports and their respective jurisdictions often compete heavily for new air service, especially to long-haul markets. Many will offer lucrative incentives to lure new airlines.

On Twitter (X), San Antonio International Airport teased the new service on Wednesday, setting the stage for an official Thursday announcement. Condor also placed the central Texas city on its route map.

According to Texas Demographics, San Antonio is the second largest city in Texas by population and seventh in the U.S. The new flight is now bookable on Condor’s website.
