Delta CEO Reports Loss of $500M From CrowdStrike-Microsoft Outages

Delta CEO Ed Bastian said the CrowdStrike-Microsoft IT outages that disrupted airlines across the country on July 19 cost the company $500 million.

Delta CEO Ed Bastian said the CrowdStrike-Microsoft IT outages that disrupted airlines across the country on July 19 cost the company $500 million, according to a CNBC report.

The report states that, according to Bastian, the company lost the money in revenue as well as tens of millions of dollars per day in hotel compensation for customers. Issues from the outage compounded after Delta’s platforms that match flight crews to aircraft couldn’t keep up with the changes.

Bastian told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” talk show on Wednesday that Delta would seek damages from the disruptions, adding, “We have no choice.” An earlier report from CNBC states that Delta hired attorney David Boies to seek damages from both CrowdStrike and Microsoft.

A spokesperson with CrowdStrike told AirlineGeeks that the company is aware of the reporting, but has no knowledge of a lawsuit and has no further comment.

Delta and Microsoft did not immediately respond to AirlineGeeks requests for comment.
