Editor’s Note: AirlineGeeks is proud to present our ‘Livery of the Week’ series. Every Friday, a team member will share an airline livery, which can be from the past, present, or even a special scheme. Some airline liveries are works of art. The complexity associated with painting around critical flight components and the added weight requires outside-the-box thinking from designers. The average airliner can cost upwards of $200,000 to repaint, creating a separate aircraft repainting industry as a result.

Air Italy, a former Italian airline operating from 2018 to 2020, showcased a livery that aimed to balance the country’s rich heritage with a contemporary aesthetic.

The airline’s color palette featured a dominant white fuselage, providing a clean and modern canvas. Accents of a light blue, often associated with Italy’s skies and seas, were incorporated into the tail design and other aircraft elements.

The Air Italy logo, centered on the fuselage, was a stylized representation of the Italian flag, paying homage to the airline’s national identity.

While the airline’s operational lifespan was relatively short, its livery design left a strong mark, demonstrating a successful fusion of traditional and contemporary design elements.
