Key Takeaways:

British low-cost carrier Jet2 has announced that it stationed its first Airbus A321neo aircraft in the Scottish capital. In addition, plans have been put in place for its first commercial flight from Edinburgh to Tenerife.

According to UK Aviation News, the Leeds-headquartered airline already has 10 Airbus A321neo aircraft in the fleet. However, these are leased, rather than the first one which arrived as part of a 146 aircraft order with Airbus.

Edinburgh Airport has been growing and slowly recovering from the pandemic in recent years. As of November 2024, according to Flightradar24, it serves 100 airports across 36 different countries. The long-haul network has been developing, with transatlantic routes to a few U.S. destinations, as well as flights to the Middle East and seasonal routes to China.

Gordan Dewar, Edinburgh Airport’s CEO, claimed that the whole industry is “aware of the need to play its part in the move to Net Zero and an important part of this will be investing in a modern and efficient fleet, something we are seeing today as Jet2.com introduces the first of its A321neo aircraft to operations at Edinburgh Airport.”
