Key Takeaways:

Southwest is set to add a route to Hawaii next year. Currently, the Dallas-based carrier operates up to 40 flights per day between the U.S. mainland and the Hawaiian Islands.

The airline will offer daily service between Sacramento, California, and Kona, Hawaii, starting on March 6, 2025. However, this is not a new route for Southwest, as the carrier previously served the market until September 2022.

Both the inbound and outbound legs are scheduled as daytime flights. Southwest will compete directly with Hawaiian, which serves the market thrice weekly on an Airbus A321neo.

Route Swap

The Sacramento-Kona service isn’t an overall gain for Southwest’s network. According to Cirium Diio schedule data, the airline will end its daily flights from Oakland to Kona on March 5.

In addition to the newly-added flights to Sacramento, Southwest serves Kona from Honolulu, Kahului, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles.
