The new offering joins a series of airport lounges throughout the U.S.
Capital One has been opening a series of lounges across airports in the United States recently, which are a hit with travelers going through Washington Dulles Airport, Denver, and Dallas/Fort Worth. The lounges offer plated food, an extensive cocktail list, and to-go food options. New lounges are expected to open soon in Las Vegas and New York’s JFK.
In the meantime, Capital One has been busy working on a different concept that it just opened at Washington’s Reagan National Airport: the Capital One Landing. The new space is not a lounge but more of a restaurant that the bank hopes will compete with concessions not only at the airport but anywhere.
Capital One Landing at the airport builds upon the partnership with Chef Jose Andres, a well-known figure who operates multiple top-class restaurants in Washington D.C., such as Jaleo and Zaytinya. Travelers can enjoy an elevated food and drink experience in a restaurant-like atmosphere at the airport.
Capital One Landing will still feature amenities that travelers have become accustomed to such as power outlets at every seat, Wi-Fi, and luggage nooks.
Dishes are all designed by the Jose Andres Group to offer an authentic taste of Spain. These include pan con tomate, pincho de tortilla de patatas, gambas al ajillo, croquetas, Spanish jamon, Xiuxo, and more.
The bar menu will include craft cocktails from the D.C. area along with wines and beers from both the region and Spain. Cocktails include the ‘Perfect Gin & Tonic’ and the ‘Fino Snapper,’ a sherry-based take on the Bloody Mary.
The space will also feature an elevated on-the-go offering that is open to both cardholders and non-cardholders with breakfast items, sandwiches, and salads. While not complimentary, Venture X and Venture X Business cardholders will receive 50 percent off on purchases.
What makes the offerings special is that the food and beverages will be sourced directly by Jose Andres suppliers. That means the offerings at the Capital One Landing will be many of the same items available at Jose Andres’ award-winning restaurants across Washington D.C. The effort required to pull this off is not insignificant. Many airport restaurants suffer from being beholden to subpar suppliers who are cleared to bring supplies into the airport.
Similar to other Capital One lounges, premium cardholders, those with the Venture X and Venture X Business cards, enjoy complimentary unlimited access with one guest per visit and additional guests at $45 each.
Other Capital One cardholders and non-cardholders can enter for $90 a visit. Kids under two, when accompanied by eligible cardholders, can enter for free.
In addition, there is another Capital One Landing location planned for New York’s LaGuardia Airport which will feature a similar concept to what is offered in D.C.
Hemal took his first flight at four years old and has been an avgeek since then. When he isn't working as an analyst he's frequently found outside watching planes fly overhead or flying in them. His favorite plane is the 747-8i which Lufthansa thankfully flies to EWR allowing for some great spotting. He firmly believes that the best way to fly between JFK and BOS is via DFW and is always willing to go for that extra elite qualifying mile.
