Editor’s Note: AirlineGeeks is proud to present our ‘Livery of the Week’ series. Every Friday, a team member will share an airline livery, which can be from the past, present, or even a special scheme. Some airline liveries are works of art. The complexity associated with painting around critical flight components and the added weight requires outside-the-box thinking from designers. The average airliner can cost upwards of $200,000 to repaint, creating a separate aircraft repainting industry as a result.
Have an idea for a livery that we should highlight? Drop us a line.
El Al, Israel’s national carrier, has a distinctive aircraft livery. The airline’s signature blue and white color scheme is instantly recognizable, reflecting the colors of the Israeli flag.
The current livery features a bold blue stripe that runs along the length of the fuselage, with the airline’s name and logo prominently displayed. The tail fin is painted in a darker shade of blue and features the Israeli flag.
El Al has occasionally introduced special liveries for specific aircraft or events, such as a Boeing 787 retro livery paying homage to the airline’s history. These special liveries add a touch of variety to the airline’s fleet while maintaining its core branding.

Earlier this year, the airline unveiled a slightly updated livery, which includes darker shades of blue throughout the aircraft.
