Silver Airways said it is filing for bankruptcy protection. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based carrier announced the Chapter 11 filing on Monday.

The airline – which began flying in 2011 – operates a fleet of all-turboprop aircraft from its bases in Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, San Juan, and Tampa.

“This decision will allow us to secure additional capital and undertake a financial restructuring that will strengthen our position as a competitive airline, ultimately benefiting you—our valued customers,” the company said in a letter to customers.

In the letter, Silver Airways added that it hopes to complete the Chapter 11 process in the first quarter of 2025. The carrier expects operations to continue as normal.

Silver Airways has codeshare and interline agreements with several airlines, including United and JetBlue. The airline carried more than 2.1 million passengers in 2019.

The company’s announcement comes months after fellow Florida-based airline Spirit filed for bankruptcy protection in November.
