Legislation proposed to the Tennessee General Assembly aims to change the naming of the Nashville International Airport to the “Trump International Airport.”
Tennessee House Bill 217 (HB0217) and Senate Bill 265 (SB0265), jointly filed in January 2025, propose spending over $10 million to redesignate BNA under the new name after President Donald Trump. The House bill is sponsored by State Rep. Todd Warner and State Sen. Joey Hensley.
The legislation requires the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) to put up signs or markers reflecting the new name. It also requires the MNAA to “amend, surrender or abandon any established trademark,” as well as revise any bylaws or governing documents and update contracts with third parties.
The $10.34 million price tag is broken down into four expense categories: administration/operations ($2.25 million), branding ($2.22 million), infrastructure/signage ($3.59 million) and trademark/legal ($2.28 million).
HB0217 has received a negative recommendation from the Tennessee House Naming & Designating Committee with four votes in support of the renaming and six votes against. SB0265 is expected to be reviewed by the Tennessee Senate Transportation and Safety Committee on March 19.
It is currently unknown when either bill will go to an official vote.
