Key Takeaways:

All United flights in the U.S. and Canada were briefly grounded early Wednesday morning due to an unspecified technology issue.

At United’s request, the FAA imposed a ground stop at around 1 a.m. EST but canceled it half an hour later.

It was not immediately clear Wednesday morning how many flights had been affected.

The airline said in a statement that it “experienced a brief connectivity issue just before midnight Central time on Tuesday, but has since resumed normal operations.”

United experienced a similar glitch in early August when a technology problem halted departures at its major hubs, including Chicago, Denver, Houston, and Newark, New Jersey. Passengers were not allowed to board their flights, and some faced delays getting off their landed airplanes due to backups at the gates. Just over 1,000 flights were delayed.
