A United flight departing Los Angeles was forced to turn around and land back at the airport on Monday after the crew reported a problem with the aircraft’s left engine.
The Newark, New Jersey-bound Boeing 787-9 took off from Los Angeles International Airport around 10:15 a.m. local time and made an emergency landing back at the airport at 11:19 a.m., according to CBS News.
Ground crews and firefighters met the airplane on arrival and hosed down the smoking left engine, the outlet reported. Passengers and crew evacuated the 787 using slides.
No injuries requiring hospitalization were reported, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
KABC-TV reported that there were 256 passengers on board, and 12 crew.
