Federal officials are investigating after a close call was reported at Newark Liberty International Airport earlier this week.
According to the FAA, an air traffic controller instructed an approaching Alaska Airlines flight to perform a go-around because a FedEx aircraft “was cleared for the final approach to an intersecting runway.”
The Alaska flight was operating with a Boeing 737, and the FedEx airplane involved is a 777.
The incident took place around 8:15 p.m. local time on Tuesday. The FAA disclosed its investigation on Thursday.
Separately, the NTSB said it is also looking into the “close call” at Newark. In its description of events, the agency said the Alaska aircraft “overflew” the FedEx 777 “while both jets were attempting to land on crossing runways.”
There were no reports of injuries to anyone on either aircraft.
