American Airlines is cutting five routes in 2027 as it scales back planned growth for next summer. The changes, which appeared in last weekend’s Cirium Diio schedule update, include service ending early next year and a seasonal route that will not return.
The Fort Worth, Texas-based airline will end flights between Phoenix and Provo, Utah; Miami and Tulum, Mexico; and Miami and Montreal in January 2027. Chicago O’Hare–Lincoln, Nebraska, service will end in April, while Dallas/Fort Worth–Albany, New York, flights will not resume next summer.
“As part of targeted actions to strengthen the airline, American will moderate its planned growth next summer,” an American spokesperson said in a statement to AirlineGeeks. “We will continue to evaluate our network, while remaining focused on investing in our product, enhancing reliability and serving the destinations our customers value most.”

The cuts span four American hubs and include three domestic and two international routes. The airline’s statement did not provide individual reasons for the five changes.
Network Additions
A sixth route flagged in the schedule update, New York LaGuardia–Bozeman, Montana, is shifting to New York-JFK. American said the move will allow it to increase service from once weekly to four flights per week.
The JFK–Bozeman flights will begin June 18, 2027, using Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
In addition, American will resume JFK–Seattle service April 6, with two daily flights operated by Airbus A321neo aircraft. The airline last served this route in 2019.
The carrier is also extending the operating seasons for two Canadian destinations from JFK. Calgary service will begin earlier, on June 17, with three weekly flights using Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. Quebec City flights will also start June 17 and will be operated with Embraer E175s. Tickets for the New York additions go on sale Oct. 5.
