The carrier is looking at the future of inter-island service.

The National Transportation Safety Board has determined that a fatigue fracture in a critical nose landing gear component led to the emergency landing.

In June 2023, Delta flight 1092 successfully landed in Charlotte, North Carolina, despite its nose landing gear failing to deploy. 

Delta plans to expand its Boeing 717 network next summer. The Atlanta-based airline has roughly 80 717-200s in its fleet.

Often, the drop in seasonal demand can also present a convenient opportunity to retire aging fleet types ahead of the next peak season

Delta and Hawaiian still operate the Boeing 717, although both carriers plan to replace the type by the end of the decade.
