Republic and Mesa formally merged as Republic Airways Holdings in November.

Mesa stockholders approved the combination in a vote last week.

The two airlines expect the deal to close later this month.

Mesa Air Group, the parent company of Arizona-based Mesa Airlines, will soon ask its shareholders to vote on its planned merger with Republic Airways.

The unions representing pilots at Republic and Mesa have signed a “unity agreement” that will govern contract negotiations as the two carriers work to merge.

Mesa reported a net loss of $114 million in Q1, which it attributed to a reduction in aircraft under contract and the end of its partnership with DHL.

Regional carrier Mesa Airlines will shed more of its fleet in the coming months following a purchase agreement with United.

Mesa is the latest airline to reduce its pilot workforce, citing “a significant and unexpected reduction in pilot attrition levels.”
