Boeing has completed the first of the necessary test flights to get the largest variant of the Boeing 737 MAX family airborne. The aerospace firm announced on Friday that the Boeing 737-10 completed the successful first flight mission on the morning of June 18th from Renton in the Seattle area.

The first flight would consist of a two-hour flight that originated at the Boeing 737 factory in Renton at 10:07 am local time and touch down at nearby Boeing Field at 12:38 pm after completing the required goals for the test flight.

Commenting on the performance of the Boeing model, 737 Chief Pilot for the first flight Jennifer Henderson said, “the airplane performed beautifully. The profile we flew allowed us to test the airplane’s systems, flight controls and handling qualities, all of which checked out exactly as we expected.”

The Boeing 737-10 is the largest version of the latest type of the Boeing 737 family. Boeing touts the MAX 10 to offer up to 204 seats in two-class configurations and 230 seats in a single class. The aircraft offers the shortest range of the family at 3,300 nautical miles but has the largest length at 143 feet, 8 inches. The aircraft shares wingspan and engine types as its small aircraft types, with a span of 117 feet, 10 inches and the CFM International LEAP-1B engine being equipped to the Boeing 737-10.

The aircraft will improve on cutting down on some flaws of older aircraft models, with the new Boeing 737 MAX family offering 14 percent reductions to carbon emissions and noise emissions falling by 50 percent compared to the Boeing 737 Next-Generation aircraft.

“The 737-10 is an important part of our customers’ fleet plans, giving them more capacity, greater fuel efficiency and the best per-seat economics of any single-aisle airplane. Our team is committed to delivering an airplane with the highest quality and reliability,” said Boeing President and CEO of Boeing Commercial, Stan Deal.

The 737-10 currently has over 450 orders and is the second most popular Boeing 737 MAX model on the order books. The aircraft is due to be delivered to airlines across the globe, with the airlines due to receive the variant including United Airlines, VietJet, flydubai, Lion Air and Gol.

The inclusion of the Boeing 737-10 now means that all four models of the Boeing 737 MAX have achieved at least one flight. The Boeing 737-7 is still flight testing while the Boeing 737-8 and 737-9 have entered commercial service. The aircraft is expected to make it into service in 2023 with the airline hoping that the supersized 737 MAX will compete with Airbus’s A321neo, which has already been through production and receiving its own improvements in the A321XLR in the next few years.

He lived along the Pennsylvania Railroad and took a liking to trains but a change of scenery in the mid-2000s saw him shift more of an interest into aviation. He would eventually express this passion by taking flying lessons in mid-Missouri and joining AirlineGeeks in 2013. Now living in Wichita, Kansas, Ian is in college majoring in aerospace engineering and minoring in business administration at Wichita State University.
