Hungarian-based Wizz Air launched an ‘All You Can Fly’ 12-month subscription program this week, with a limited number of memberships available. The offer has proven so popular that all initial subscriptions have sold out with the website stating: ‘Stay tuned for more availability.’
The airline states that those with a paid membership to ‘Wizz All You Can Fly’ will be able to book seats for a flat fee across its international network of 780 routes and 53 countries starting in September. This includes services operated by its U.K., Abu Dhabi, Malta, and Hungarian-based operators.
According to BBC News, initial membership numbers were limited to 10,000 with potential subscribers indicating their preferred airport of choice. Wizz Air stipulated that there were to be restrictions on the number of subscriptions available ‘on a country-specific basis.’ Limitations have also been placed on domestic services within Italy, with these flights between Italian airports exempt for booking by ‘Wizz All You Can Fly’ members.
The BBC report detailed that several airports already indicated that ‘Wizz All You Can Fly’ memberships were sold out within a few hours of the press release. Potential subscribers were met with a statement: “In the case that you are unable to select your preferred airport, please note that the limit has been reached and Wizz Air is unfortunately unable to offer you a Wizz All You Can Fly membership at this time.”
Seat availability will be subject to a ‘number of internal and external factors’ according to the program’s terms and conditions. These include the ‘number of total registered members of Wizz All You Can Fly, number of overall passengers with booking to the given flight and the seat capacity of the given flight.’
The service launched with an introductory price of EUR 499 ($549) and after this period the cost was to rise to EUR 599 ($659). The ‘per seat’ charge will be a flat fee of EUR 9.99 ($11) with seats able to be booked in a window of three days (72 hours) before departure. The membership payment and flat fee only cover the airline’s carry-on fare so checked baggage and other services will be extra.
Wizz Air has a monthly ‘Multi-Pass’ subscription service available by specific countries with variable cost options for one-way or return ticket purchases. Countries included in the ‘Multi-Pass’ include the U.K., Poland, Romania, and the United Arab Emirates. U.K. consumers can purchase a ‘one-way pass’ for EUR 64.99 (71.50) per month allowing them to fly from any U.K. airport to a Wizz Air destination. Those who wish to avail themselves of these Multi-Pass options must commit to a 12-month subscription.
