Ultra-low-cost carrier Avelo is adding six new routes and bringing a new destination into its network.

The Houston-based airline said it plans to expand nonstop service at its bases in North Carolina and Connecticut while connecting customers to Key West, Florida, for the first time.

“We continue to inspire travel by growing our network at our newest bases,” said Avelo founder and CEO Andrew Levy. “We’re adding a new destination in Key West, giving [Wilmington International Airport] their first international destination to the Dominican Republic, and three new routes to our Charlotte base. These new routes offer our customers even more choices, making it easier and more affordable than ever for our customers to get where they want to go.”

The first three new flights will launch in October from Concord, North Carolina, near Charlotte, to San Juan, Puerto Rico (Oct. 22), West Palm Beach, Florida, and Albany, New York (both Oct. 23). The Charlotte-San Juan route will operate twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays, while Charlotte-West Palm Beach and Charlotte-Albany will both run four times weekly on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

On Nov. 19, flights between Tweed-New Haven Airport in Connecticut and Key West will come online, operating twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

More Florida Growth

Service between Wilmington, North Carolina, and West Palm Beach will start Nov. 20, running twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays. About one month later, on Dec. 24, Wilmington will connect with Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, with twice-weekly service on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Avelo is working to build up its East Coast network while stepping back from markets in the West and Southwest. Last month, it announced plans to close its base in Burbank, California, by Dec. 2, and reduce flights to other West Coast destinations. After this month, it will no longer regularly serve Las Vegas, Salem, Oregon, or Santa Rosa, California.
