Key Takeaways:

  • Frontier is substantially scaling down its service at New York-JFK Airport starting mid-April, less than a year after it began operations there.
  • The airline will reduce its JFK routes to a single daily service connecting to Atlanta, eliminating all other current and planned destinations.
  • Frontier attributes the cuts to factors like market demand, seasonality, and operating costs, leading to a projected 205% year-over-year capacity decrease at JFK in May.
  • Despite the significant reduction at JFK, Frontier will continue to serve the New York metropolitan area via LaGuardia (LGA) and Newark (EWR) airports.

Frontier plans to substantially scale down service at New York-JFK later this year as part of its latest schedule adjustment. The ultra-low-cost carrier began serving the airport in 2024.

During the peak summer months, the airline initially planned to connect New York-JFK and San Juan, Puerto Rico; Atlanta; Chicago O’Hare, Las Vegas; along with Atlanta. Frontier has also linked the New York airport with other markets in the past, including Dallas/Fort Worth; Tampa, Florida; Miami; Denver; and Los Angeles.

Starting in mid-April, the carrier’s New York-JFK will be reduced to a single route to Atlanta, according to schedule data from Cirium. This service is slated to operate once per day.

“We periodically review and update routes based on market demand, seasonality, costs associated with operating from a particular airport, and other factors,” an airline spokesperson said as part of a statement to AirlineGeeks. Frontier will continue to service New York via LaGuardia and Newark.

With these cuts, Frontier’s capacity in New York will be down nearly 33% year-over-year in May.
