WestJet is cutting another route to the U.S., just weeks before it was scheduled to launch. The airline is blaming a lull in transborder demand.

This move, Southwest said, is part of the carrier’s ongoing efforts to “further maximize our operational efficiency and reliability.”

Often – at least during the regular season – these teams charter multiple narrowbody aircraft to move teams and staff around the country.

Southwest is looking to hang on to its No. 1 spot in the Texas capital, adding a new route in 2025. The carrier will go head-to-head with Delta.

With meaningful investment already and likely more on the way, the airline seems dead set on maintaining its status as the city’s No. 2 carrier.

The route is scheduled to commence on May 11, 2025, operating three times per week on WestJet’s Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

The Atlanta-based airline has added a plethora of new routes from the Texas capital in recent months, many of which to non-hub markets.

A spokesperson from Hawaiian Airlines confirmed the planned 2025 service exit in a statement to AirlineGeeks on Thursday.

An American Airlines Boeing 737-800 and a Cessna 182 came within 400 feet of each other in a Wednesday “near-miss” incident.

Delta is gearing up to grow its Austin operation by over 17% in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.
