Pilots with Canada’s Porter Airlines have taken a major step toward joining the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), becoming the union’s 43rd labor group.

Canadian airline WestJet is adding new seasonal destinations and routes this winter, including flights to Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Panama.

Several Canadian airlines – including Air Canada, WestJet, and Porter – have already trimmed their transborder schedules.

The United crew reported receiving a TCAS alert during their climb as they approached the FedEx aircraft’s altitude on Saturday.

In a statement, Porter President Kevin Jackson said the new destinations are the airline’s first outside Canada and the U.S.

Canadian airline WestJet said it became aware of a “cybersecurity incident” late last week that affected its website and mobile app.

Allegiant is trimming some flights as U.S. and Canadian airlines continue to report a slowdown in travel demand between the two countries.

Finnair currently has six destinations in North America: New York-JFK, Chicago O’Hare, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Miami, and Seattle.

In August, Air Canada’s transborder capacity will be down nearly 12% compared to the same period last year, as measured by Available Seat Miles.

Porter is the latest Canadian airline to scale back service to the U.S., joining a growing list of high-profile route cuts in recent months.
