More than 160 U.S. airports — 40 in Alaska alone — could lose Essential Air Service funding if the shutdown continues past Sunday.

Starting Oct. 16, Spirit will offer twice weekly nonstop flights between Middle Georgia Regional Airport and Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Contour and Spirit announced on Monday a strategic partnership aimed at increasing air service options for underserved communities.

Regional carrier Contour plans to bolster its service from Denver with two routes. These new services will begin this summer.

Dulles has seen a slew of new airlines in recent months, including Breeze, Avelo, and Aeromexico’s recently resumed service to Mexico City.

Denver International Airport is slated to add a new airline to its mix. Twenty-seven carriers serve the Colorado airport.

The regional operator is continuing its foray into the Part 135 charter market with a recent investment in Contour Airlines.

This past Wednesday, Envoy Air — a wholly-owned subsidiary of American Airlines — retired its last Embraer 145 from their fleet.
