Spirit Bolsters Premium Offerings

The ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) plans to introduce an onboard product similar to domestic first class.

Spirit announced on Tuesday a major overhaul of its travel options, introducing new premium offerings and so-called enhanced services aimed at providing customers with greater flexibility and comfort. The airline says the move is part of a “significant transformation that delivers an even friendlier, more comfortable, and cost-effective travel experience.”

The traditionally low-fare carrier will launch four new travel options on Aug. 16, 2024: Go Big, Go Comfy, Go Savvy, and Go. Each option offers varying levels of amenities, from premium seating and checked baggage to more basic fare structures.

Go Big, the airline’s top tier, includes a dedicated Big Front Seat, snacks, drinks (including alcoholic beverages), priority check-in and boarding, and a single free checked bag. Go Comfy provides a guaranteed blocked middle seat, priority boarding, and a snack and non-alcoholic beverage, which is similar to Frontier’s recently debuted premium offering.

Go Savvy offers a choice of one carry-on or one checked bag, while Go provides the most basic fare structure with optional add-ons, including seat selection and onboard Wi-Fi.

Priority Check-In Desks

In addition to the new fare options, Spirit will implement a priority check-in process at select airports starting Aug. 27, 2024, offering expedited service for Go Big customers and elite frequent flyers. This option will be rolled out at over 20 airports, including Atlanta, Cancun, Dallas/Fort Worth, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Newark, New York-LaGuardia, and Orlando.

To further enhance customer satisfaction, the carrier says it has retained its recently introduced policies of no change or cancellation fees, increased checked bag weight limits, and extended expiration dates for future travel vouchers.

“We’re unveiling a new era in Spirit’s history and taking low-fare travel to new heights with enhanced options that are unlike anything we’ve offered before,” said Ted Christie, Spirit’s President and Chief Executive Officer, in a news release. “We listened to our Guests and are excited to deliver what they want: choices for an elevated experience that are affordable and provide unparalleled value.”

The new offerings will be available for booking starting Aug. 16, 2024, with the full suite of enhancements launching on Aug. 27, 2024.
