United released a statement Tuesday calling for more Federal Aviation Administration air traffic controllers at the Newark approach facility.
Hourly flights are set to return between New York and Washington, D.C starting in May 2025 with up to 17 daily frequencies.
The airline’s largest aircraft type will return to its Northeast hub next year with regularly-scheduled flights to Europe and the Middle East.

The route is a service resumption; Continental Micronesia last served the market in 2005, according to Aeroroutes. Continental and United merged in 2010.
United took delivery of its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner since March 2023 this week. The new aircraft features a special paint scheme.
Currently, the regional airline giant operates a handful of the premium-heavy 50-seat jets for Delta Connection and soon United Express.
With the new route, United becomes the first U.S. carrier to operate regular service to Greenland with flights starting in June 2025.
Together with regional operator SkyWest, United began serving the eastern California airport in December 2021 with seasonal flights.
